A Message from Kara Makohon-Moore, Grade 6 Science Teacher

Important Information About the Meadowlands Environment Center Field Trip

October 11, 2024

Dear Grade 6 Families,

All sixth-grade students will be attending a field trip to the Meadowlands Environment Center on Wednesday, October 23 from 8:30 AM to  2:30 PM. Students will be engaging in a program titled “Sustainable Design.

This program addresses the concepts of sustainable materials and water conservation, and why they are important in our communities. Students will also investigate alternative energy and renewable resources by touring the Environmental Center’s LEED certified science building. The students then will be challenged to demonstrate their knowledge by selecting materials and constructing a 3-D model of their own “green” home.

Our first unit in science is all about human impact on our environment, so this is a great addition to our unit!

About the Trip and Day

Students should plan to arrive to campus on time in the morning (8:00 AM - 8:10 AM). They will leave their backpacks and Yondr pouches in their cubbies at school. Students will be taken to the Environment Center and will be leaving campus around 8:30 AM. Bagged lunches will be provided to students, but students who prefer to carry lunches from home may do so. We will be back by 2:30 PM for the remainder of the day.

We expect all students to be on their best behavior as it reflects ourselves and our school. Teachers/advisors will be accompanying the students as their chaperones. Please note that all programs and classes are held rain or shine. The classes are held inside the science building and any outside activities have an inside substitution if weather is inclement. Students should be prepared to be outside and are encouraged to “dress for mess.”

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about this trip. We are looking forward to an exciting day!

Best regards,
Mrs. Makohon-Moore
